This new course arises from the need to deepen and homogenize knowledge of commercial teams, field technicians and all personnel involved in the chain, in aspects related to the quality of lemon produced in the European Union (Spain) and outside it such as Argentina and South Africa, prepared in a practical way and applied to the current reality of fruit inspections both during arrival at destination and at the origin of production. Topics will be addressed such as the importance and impact of quality in lemon exports and marketing, the main problems (pests, diseases and physiopathies) that we can encounter depending on the producing country and keys to differentiate them, the most effective inspection procedures. and representative today, etc.

The training will allow you to know and learn the different variables that affect the reception of lemons and direct the efforts of the internal work teams towards the cause that generates the greatest problems for us. You will have the necessary tools that will allow you to be prepared to face the challenges of lemon marketing in the European Union as well as manage negotiations with clients in a diplomatic and beneficial way for your company.

With the elements learned, you will be ready to carry out quality control in a comprehensive manner, interpret data, know the regulations and the countries to which we can access and improve the understanding of the cultures with which we have to resolve disagreements or claims of the quality of our fruit.

This will offer competitive advantages to our business and allow us to stand out in a competitive environment.

The main objective is that the knowledge acquired is directly applicable in all circumstances, with updated information used in the current professional field.

The course consists of 40 total hours 100% online, distributed in 6 blocks of 3 weekly meetings, which will end with an integrative in-person live streaming workshop, where you can generate networking, put into practice the concepts learned during classes and debate with our professionals specialized.

Both the blocks and the material used will be available so you can follow them at your own pace however and whenever you want.

BLOCK I
Quality as a differential factor in marketing: Introduction and key parameters

  • Course objectives. Learning methodology.
  • Importance of quality in the marketing of fresh fruit. Current challenges. Productive data: Export and import and main markets.
  • Typical organoleptic characteristics of lemon cultivation and its quality parameters.
  • Description of the packaging/warehousing process. Management of critical points to improve final quality.

BLOCK II
Pre-Harvest Diseases

  • Global importance of knowledge of field diseases in lemon marketing. Impact on the economic result. Data and statistics.
  • Identification and characterization of pre-harvest diseases of lemon. Symptoms, signs and life cycle of the causative pathogens.
  • Keys for correct differentiation from other diseases or physiopathies with similar symptoms.

BLOCK III
Post-Harvest Diseases

  • Main postharvest quality alterations. Physiological alterations, dehydration, mechanical damage, phytotoxicities.
  • Identification and characterization of post-harvest fungal diseases of lemon. Symptoms, signs and life cycle of the causative pathogens.
  • Keys to minimize the incidence of these diseases on fresh lemons sold.

BLOCK IV
Damage caused by insects, physiopathies and collection/harvest errors

  • Importance and impact of defects caused by insects and harvesting in lemon.
  • Identification and characterization of the main insect-related damages that affect quality. Causative agents and symptoms.
  • Defects originated during collection/harvest and their impact on the result.

BLOCK V
Inspection methodology and regulatory framework

  • Recommended practices for obtaining representative sampling and adequate inspection of fruit.
  • Regulations in the marketing of lemon as fresh fruit: International citrus quality standard. Regulatory framework on quality of the European Union. Customer (supermarket) standards on MRLs.

BLOCK VI
Preparation of quality reports and claims management

  • Preparation and interpretation of quality reports. Main parameters and indicators to take into account for correct decision making.
  • Claims management. Types, methods for resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Costs associated with non-quality. Environmental and economic impact of fruit rejected by customers.

Block VII
International negotiation techniques. Defect recognition

  • Negotiation techniques and conflict resolution in international trade.
  • Intercultural communication. Tools for understanding different cultures and ways to interact effectively with business partners from the main lemon marketing countries.
  • Practice of recognizing the main damages in lemons.
